Ear Piercing Allowed

Assalamualaikum Warahamathulahi Wabarakatuhu

Everyone would have pierced their ears and nose to wear earrings and nose-rings. And there arises the question, is it allowed to pierce ears and nose. Recently, there were many Islamic debated regarding this matter and still it is being continued. Here, you will get An Insight on Piercing in Islam. Most of the Islamic Scholars say that there is no reference in the hadith or Qura’an regarding piercing.

It is narrated by Ibn Abbas (Radhiallahu’Anhu) that: “Messenger of ALLAH (Salallahu’Alayhiwassalam) prayed two rakaths on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, he didn’t pray anything before or after it. Then he went the group of women along with Bilal (Radhiallahu’Anhu) and he ordered the women to give charity. Hence, the women threw forth their earrings and necklaces” ( Sahih Bhukari #964, Sahih Muslim #884 )
This hadith clearly gives An Insight on Piercing in Islam. The women had pierced their ears during the Prophet’s era, and it shows it is permissible.

The word “Khurs” is used to describe the earring in the above hadith. Khurs is a ring that could be worn in the ears only through piercing it. This shows, it is permissible for women to pierce only their ears. Remember my dear brothers and sisters, any other piercing is forbidden in Islam. Including the nose, because the Hijab would cover our whole body, leaving our face and palms permissibly exposed. And if, one wears nose-ring then it would be like showing off their adornments, which is Haram in Islam. And other piercings like belly, eyebrows, lips etc.., is highly forbidden as it is equal to body mutilation (changing) as well causing harm to oneself and also imitating the Non-Muslims (who began this new types of piercing as apart of Fashion or new trend), which is mentioned in Qura’an.

And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them [sinful] desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allah .” And whoever takes Satan as an ally instead of Allah has certainly sustained a clear loss.” (Surah An-Nisa, Ayath 119). This verse, clearly shows that Shaytaan would mislead the believers (which includes piercing other than ears, and the piercing of men). “And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.” [ Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayath 195]. Today, many Men had began to pierce their body. This haram, because it’s like men imitating women, and Prophet (Salallahu’Alayhiwassalam) has cursed such people.  Hope you would have got a good An Insight on Piercing. May ALLAH guide us all from the Shaytaan. Ameen Ya Rabb!
